These are my big girl pants

by Angie Jenkins

You don’t need to protect me
I’m a big girl now
See my big girl pants?
I don’t need you to hold my hand
Or make sure I’m alright
I’ll fight the monsters in my closet
And solve my own bad dreams
Before you wake up
I don’t need a sucker for my boo-boos
And I’ll make my own damn chicken noodle soup
If I’m feeling sick
But if you’re looking for something to do
I would suggest washing your mouth out with soap
Getting off the pity-potty
And joining the rest of the grown-ups
Instead of treating me like the child.
