sweet revenge

by Angela Thomas

this time it will be different. i'll call the shots
and say just the right things to twist your little
heart into a knot. to draw you closer and cry
on your shoulder, so you think you have

the best of me. i'll manipulate, pull, push,
weave, and deceive you into loving me more
and more. you're already falling deep into
the rabbit hole, taking days off at work,

coming the moment i call to be by my side,
my hand clasped in yours, our legs crossed
one over the other, a drink sweating untouched
on the bar. and when you're most vulnerable,

i'm going to disappear. i'm going to break
your heart. i'm going to do you like you did me.
