…A deer in the headlights

by Jared Orlando

My heart is...
A deer in the headlights
And instead of
Giving in
I’m caught
Of guard
By the sights of
A glow
By the sounds of
Spinning wheels
Frozen solid
Choices to make
When confronted by
Changing, winds,
The beat, beat, patterns
Slow and sweep up
Without knowing,
I’m flailing subconsciously
Brittle, another paged turned
Run over, startled
You’ll just go
Right by.

Oh, haven't we all had those moments of the deer in headlights looks? Sigh. What a beauty!
