a teachable moment by Charlie Morgana nod, and he pauses. i wait.
there is the teachable moment;
fleeting, but is able to be grasped.
two go on the trip, two come back.
now, i know more, seeing the world;
for once, through his age-four eyes,
as green kelp of understanding
waves in his under-water world:
...'Papaw, my...my...my...,
...my twruck is reeely, reeely, reeely, reeely, reeely
(breath-[for life])reeely, reeely, reeely, reeeeeeeely big.
mine was, not yours. o. k. Papaw?'
i laugh. "Papaw, don't laugh.!", "well,
quit being funny." "i'm not being funny!"
"well, when you get me tickled, Papaw laughs."
the chatter of spring birds is the bass-line
of t.v.s and dog barks...and the cymbal clash:
nothing more than cells growing, development.
excited utterences, a testament to teachable moments.
i am one hand clapping, seeing Jesus over-my-shoulder.
pretty far away, yet i see His Roadhouse to Heaven. grin.
'look'(pointing to Kai), i say to Jesus...He nods, ...'i am'
...grins back.
used to be, i feared Him. He knew. everything about me.
like Patchens, i died a million deaths just waiting on one!
and confidently squeeze Me into my grandson, cell by cell.
"hey, Jesus. when this is all over, will you wait for me?"
i holler. He starts drawing in the sand. i know what He means. 05/01/2010 Posted on 05/01/2010 Copyright © 2026 Charlie Morgan

| Posted by A. Paige White on 06/23/10 at 02:04 AM Oh wow. This is going straight into my favorites. I adore it. Reminds me to remind you that sometimes those "Papaw, don't laugh.!", "well,
quit being funny." moments continue even when the Granny is 67 and on the phone with her 25 year old granddaughter, telling us (on speakerphone) how she googled her dad's full name to find a genealogy that obviously her stepmother did because though it lists her half brother and sister as his children, she and her brother (by me) aren't mentioned. She's saying,.."about what I would expect that b*tch would do" and her granny saying, "what? who died?" to get a silence from her granddaughter and a questioning look from me... "well she was saying something about an obituary" and had me literally rolling on the floor laughing... I could but echo your, "well,
quit being funny." "i'm not being funny!"... just love this Chaz! |
