Eyes For You

by Richard Vince

I have never seen a body like
The one she gently reveals through
An almost irrelevant dress; I try
Not to reveal my gladness.

I need not worry that I may
Someday: I have found the one
For me, and she only has eyes for you.

She looks relaxed, smiling casually
In a way I never mastered, hiding
The darker truth her clothing betrays.

The occasional impatient glance away
Embodies her determination to
Get through the silly games and
Tedious conversations and jokes she
Doesn’t understand.

In just a few short hours, it will be
Her small yet strong hand on
Your knee in the taxi, then leading
You to an unfamiliar front door.
They will be your nervous hands on
The hem of her dress as it
Leaves her slight frame behind.

Beware, my friend: you have only
Two eyes, but she has drawers full,
Waiting for you to go home.

Very sharp, effective short story quality to this, and you gotta love an ending like the one you put together here.
