Reprieve by Richard VinceThe glamour of the perfectly square rooms
Is not lost on her: it matches the
Feigned feeling of being kept; of being
The centre of just enough attention.
This is it now. The days and nights
Form a straight, desert road ahead,
All the way to the not too distant
Horizon. A different kind of routine.
A bigger splash.
Being surrounded by caricatures was
So lonely; now, she has her own
For company, like creating a
Character in a book. No venom,
No pride, no competitiveness:
Only intelligence, thoughtfulness
And a quiet dignity. Just so.
Farewell to all that unrewarded
Effort, and welcome to universal,
If guarded, respect. No one even
Has to know who she is.
This is it now.

Posted by Julie Adams on 04/26/10 at 01:41 AM I love reading ur work, the craftmanship, the personas of ur subjects, ur imagery..."this is how it is now", and this is no exception...kudos, Vince...peace, jewels xo |
Posted by Anita Mac on 04/27/10 at 03:16 AM This feels a little bit different to me for you. But in a good way, and not at all a complete departure. It reads like the beginning of a bigger story. |
Posted by Coleman Demiurge on 06/13/10 at 09:29 PM This is a really excellent piece; very well done indeed. For me, it kind of brought Jane Austen to mind... My favorite writer. Very nice. ;) |
