And they call it a mine. by Aaron BlairI know the ground will take me,
just not when. Every day,
I punch a clock that does not tick
and say my goodbyes to the sun.
I crawl down below everything,
to the bottom of the world,
the dust from the black floor swirling,
dancing gleefully inside my lungs.
I am a man, though, brave,
a conqueror undeterred by
the stone of a womanly earth.
I bring fear from above.
I menace the dark with fire.
The ground will take me,
but only as an act of retribution.
I have taken it first. 04/16/2010 Author's Note: Title borrowed from Gimli, son of Gloin. Of course.

Posted by Julie Adams on 04/25/10 at 05:47 PM great poem, each line is cleverly chosen and crafted, I like them all, but esp. "a conqueror undeterred by/ the stone of a womanly earth./ I bring fear from above./ I menace the dark with fire."...kudos poet, there is fire in this poem!! peace, jewels xo |
