the peonies are early this year
pink petals clasped tightly
around the morning dew

ladies parade about in skirts,
twirling loosely, pink fabric
splaying circles around bare legs

I look down in my lap, see
pants - black fabric clasped
tight to my skin and think

I am no lady

I am no flower
