11. empty

by Jasmine Sword-Mann

pressed against your silhouette
i trembled, lying to my side
cradling a swollen belly

it felt whole
in those days
even knowing it
could never be

the decision was
hardest -
the procedure
wasn't

teeth bared in a grin
you said you'd never have allowed
our child anyway

beneath my feet the
earth smelt of rain

and i felt
empty

A heart-felt piece, Jasmine. I liked the concluding lines with their allusion to future fertility.
