Attention Deficit

by Jared Orlando

The coffee is on
>>the toaster lights
Smells leak in around me
My cold feet on laminate
>>two green lights
An early morning kitchen
Light glistening onto
Freshly clean countertop
>>toast. I should’ve made toast.
Newspaper, opened
Page 4, politics numb me
>>noise, from the alleyway
Liquid trickles, drip
Dripping into the decanter
Adrenaline so much closer now
>>garbage trucks? Trucks?
My toes tapping, the dogs barking
Typical as typical morning
Can be in the city
>>Mail. War. Girls. Toast.
Focus. Focus. Focus.

I love it Jared. My wife is a nurse and an early riser. But her hours change almost from day to day. We just don't do the coffee pot clock so years ago I bought a two-piece device. One plugs between the electric outlet and the coffee pot. The other sets next to my side of the bed. When she her clock radio goes off I reach over and press a button on this small device and it sends a signal to the device between the coffee pot and the electric outlet. It turns on and by the time she is out of the shower, I'm back to sleep and she has her coffee ready. Now if I could only press another button so she would make less noise getting dressed..... Again nice write.
