Of your beating waves

by Kim Thevenot

I slip into dreams
filled with open windows
and days where intoxication is a constant
tick that dictates the swing my life moves.

In, out, over, and in between
The sheets of your pleading
eyes...
They breathe something unimaginable
into the parts of me that are quick to anger
and i flinch at your slight touch.

I am nestled in cold water
An uncertain swishing that berates my ears
With sounds I am familiar with.

I know these words and this feeling
Of slipped out ankles and broken bones.
In this way I self defeat any efforts of climbing out of sleep
Through open windows
Into a warm breeze.
