Bitter Cold

by Rhonda Maneki

You come and go as an never ending winter,
leaving me chilled to the core.
These words, from my lips freezes in mid air,
then falls in small crystalline droplets to the ground
while accumulating at my feet.

You tread without boundaries.
Your heavy anger ridden weight stepping upon each word,
each emotion to amuse you, just so you
can hear that breaking glass crunch of molecules crushing together,
those twisted icy moans and groans wanting to escape from beneath you.

Oh, that sound resonating through me as I try to warm
myself with good thoughts, fighting the ice of you,
which I allowed to permeate me.

I'm moving to Antarctica where it is warmer
than my life with you.

It has been so bitterly cold this year.
