Equality by Jeffrey ParrenI guess there is equality after all.
The purity and intensity of the romance
is quite nearly equal
to the rugged and downright nastiness
of our downfall from love.
And I'm sure if you read this
you'll want it erased and deleted
like you said
about the last three years
since I am airing laundry
that isn't all mine
but the poetry
the unique irony
cannot be ignored.
As the local kids are walking home
from their school's day
yelling foul language
that clearly I hear
from the open window
I wonder who wants to bring a child
into this awful world anyway
though I am sure
the whole experience is life-changing.
Almost every day presents a fight
whether at work
or even in the confines of your own dwelling
fighting off the evil that is life
the endless confusion
that having a heart brings.
The majesty and misery of it all.
I suppose it matters on which end
of which stick you are
speaks for your happiness
or your equal and bitter
pain.
