Day 29 by Angie JenkinsWorrying, rushing, stressing
as though life
was merely a competition
of who can freak out more
or who’s best at not handling pressure
(I would win both).
Sleepily dragging heavy feet
through daunting lectures,
endless work shifts
and countless Starbucks runs;
caffeine means nothing
when you have no reason
to remain awake.
There will come a day
to relax, to breathe
(I wonder how that feels),
but it is not this day;
for I am still alive
and too caught up in life
to bother with anything more
than existing.

Posted by Julie Adams on 03/16/10 at 05:13 PM Angie, this piece also deserves much attention and I had to rate it highly! There is a subtlety to your writing style, a subdued magnificence in the message your words convey and it is a pleasure to behold...my fav line in this piece: "caffeine means nothing/ when you have no reason/ to remain awake." - WOW, that really says it all...wonderful build up to this climax, and the close is equally balanced...I am enjoying your library...peace to u poet, jewels xoxox |
