matter or stars? by Charlie Morganthe granite man
is making a template
of our kitchen counter.
snipping here, glueing there,
doubling here, shimming there.
all for the proper fit.
and after the bill
was presented,
i showed him a proper fit.
in the 7th grade
Coach Zimmerman
taught science.
he said those
little needle points
of light in the dark sky
were matter--stars.
i wondered why the hell
he couldn't make up his mind,
matter of stars? then i remembered,
he was just a Coach.
my eight pound head totes a long-ton
of worries.no pillow fits;
i'm a newbie at scout camp,
my bed short-sheeted.
