Cold Snap by David HillIt is good to be out in a freezing wind
to walk stiffly with shoulders rolled
to breath the cold air in-out in-out
to feel goose flesh crawl my neck
to see specks sparkle in the concrete
to hear dry leaves click the sidewalk
to sink my hands in the coat pockets
to hear the corner stop sign rattle
to watch a cloud cross the sun
to feel the thin flesh on my ears burn
to use my weight to pull the door
to feel rushing air fill the stairwell
to hear the door slam at my heels
It is good to find the warmth inside
