Haiku Before Dawn

by Marcus Lane

2.19 am.
Another sleepless night in
Clinging sweaty sheets.

Unnoticed by day,
This metronomic ticking
Is thieving my sleep.

It's no use hiding -
My water glass magnifies
The luminous dial.

Ominous red glow,
Like an army on the ridge,
Retreat into dream.

These are all really good but I found the third and fourth particularly vivid and graphic. You certainly set the scene as a hostile incursion. Great job!

This captures a sleepless night well. One of the things I like best about living in the dry American West is no damp "clinging" sheets.
