Expiration Date

by Jeffrey Parren

This path
this life
this mortal coil
just like many things
has an expiration date.

Though all things end
it's important to know
that portions of existence do too.

I was
once a baby
once a child
once a teen
once eager to walk again
once anxious to see 21
and all these have expired.

Now my twenties are over.

The thirties have begun.
I know not where this stage expires
but I know that my time to fight
has commenced.

I hope when I meet my final expiration date
the mirror and my mind
have become kinder
as for now I have let myself down
over and over.

We all have expiration dates
I just want to be a part
of something momentous
before it's too late.

You're young- you have plenty of time. Life is a great experiment. Hindsight is great. Your Life has just begun. There is no experartion date. You have a lot to look forward to. When your number is up; it's all a matter of fate. You are too young to have regrets. The best has yet to come.

I too have not long turned thirty and realized that have a finite time left to do whatever it is I am going to do. Thanks for expressing this so well.

...jeff, how do you spell thirties, or thirtys...ya see how you confuse me with this tiny writing about 30 year olds...i, i, i don't remember?, joking of course, i do see this as another good, great jaunt into your poetic ability...love the line breaks and message, shhhheeeesh. don't wanna tawk too much about expiration dates unless it's milk...funny how 63 causes that, harrumph!
