After a Long Absence

by Mainon A Schwartz

Picking up a pen with
intentions
after so many years

makes me feel like
a grey-haired suitor
shambling up a footpath

to approach the love of my youth.

She is sitting
on her front porch,
rocking gently,

knitting something warm.
I see now she has been waiting
for me

just as I left her.

I enjoyed this read- bittersweet. I'm glad you shared it- very vivid; great word choice. We all go through blocks- for one reason or another. Welcome back.

wow. lately this has been EXACTLY how I feel. The picture is perfectly crafted. I love the idea of a "grey-haired suitor shambling". beautiful work.

makes me feel like a grey-haired suitor shambling up a footpath to approach the love of my youth.

I've always loved that voice that now seems like an echo, but the reverberation returns and I'm thrilled.
