Sweet Lullaby Mountains

by Michael Defries

Your love is more to me than words;
Your embrace is the smile; when I see you
looking-back, not forward into me.

When you lay your hands on our children
at night, softly, reading to them lullabies
of E.E. and “Wind” through “Willows”.

Your touch they crave, it's warm sun on
their canvas, lighting their embodied
spark; caressing nurturing.

When you look at me, I see how you look
deep into the mountain of my terrain
with onyx channels turned a million
dials too far to the left; reaches
combinations untold.

It's the admiration; you hide in the glint;
diamonds; jeweled as emerald lakes rippling,
and corners of mouths brought wide-to-endless.

Surmised to set across a journey of inescapable
timing unnecessary in the dimensions of love
with words so challenged to express; untouched-
passion driving madness ashore; laying abroad

sands of golden white powder; and your faint
faint whisper onto my skin with your eyes
It embellishes my desires to go beyond beyond

Limits set-none by the destination only across
broken divides fractured by a thousand jigsaws
mirrored in the ripples of the cosmos restoring
faith to little-ones as your story enters their hearts.

For one final time I attempt to dissolve expression
with words as the sweet lullabies you tell with simply
the glances-known, set across my certain advances.

Looking-forward, not back, there are no regrets
my shell cannot waver in the willows while E.E.
Waits to become; more than what he had planned-

Within these four-walls; his existence-bound, must
eventually reach land; It's what was written in the
annals of time; stories of forgotten lore; sweet, sweet
lullaby mountains.
