like any other

by Charlie Morgan

a sun-changing morning was greeting me;
pushing me like a westward wagon.
it was all i could do to drive this morning,
i was consumed counting my blessings.

he entered my office; i could see some problems;
first he confused my book-filled office with wisdom,
i left him with that notion. felt good to be wise.
closed the door behind me; he'll be there tomorrow.

he'd be dark, were he my shadow; omnious, unfriendly;
he opens my door. let's me in. how can that be bad?
he does start a lot of machinations for the day, eh?
thinking this fancy philosophy one minute, next suicide.

he doesn't snarl at me; seems to trust me. i can't him.
though he makes certain he's a blur while he's in view;
i told you i knew him. he's got a whole bag o' tricks.
just have him show you the disappearing dream trick;

it's a real heartbreaker.
