Digression

by Quinlan L Gibson

Wandering…following the light as it holds my hand
And I can taste this night; bitter and thick resin.
Congestion ingested in harmonious fusion,
lining the street with toxins; anti-venom pulses through the sewers
As girls and boys pursue their dreams led by the gutter rats.
Chocolate-covered infatuation and laced with persuasion
“Want some candy? Look at all the pretty colors!”
Wandering…stay within the pack for those who stray are outcasts.
If you’re brave enough to break; obstacles await, hated, debated.
A wasteland; pile of shavings, disintegrating and glistening on the cold, trampled ground.

...a wise voice, a young mind that sees.
