3 Nightingales In The Attic

by Michael Defries

Its voice singing...
sweewoo suwweehoo:
su-ih su-ih, | su-ih su…

Hearing the bird song,
my sleep light,
like a feather falling |

off my comforter-down
from heaven's clouds
of meek...

glory in the mortar.

Fresh air singing
tales of bird-song
enlightening

the wind.

Then forgetting
to close the glass
attic...

Merging with wood
and morning creaks,

Hear chirps as bird
panels slip silent,

Household removes
insulated steps as
Banisters caress
hand's silk stress.

It's the birds...

It's the song...

It's the su-ih
Su-ih su...as they feel

the passion of the
su-ih su... su-ih su-ih.|

It's all that's known
by rooftop ears.
