One More Excuse (Valentine's Hell)

by Maria Terezia Ferencz

wanting to pretend it meant more
than nothing
she closed her eyes
but not her legs
as usual they were open
It was Valentine's Day
one more excuse
to get laid

which was as close
as she would ever get
to love

wanting to pretend it meant nothing
she opened her eyes
when he turned away
from her lips
(secretly hoping he might kiss her this time)
as usual he did not

wanting to pretend it meant more
than nothing
she closed her heart
but not her legs
as usual they were open

one more excuse
to get laid
which was as close
as she would ever get
to love

Your words leave an impact like a heavy footstep on sand. They don't have to be fancy but they do bear a lot of symbolism. Enough to imprint your message wherever it is read. Well done.

Brutal and quite striking in a lyrical kind of way. I like it a lot.

Like Amie said, this isn't an attempt to use fancy word play -this is a simple structure and to-the-point vocabulary which really emphasize the pain in the piece and it makes for a really raw edge -nicely done!
