She has a gentle kindness around the eyes

by Julie Adams

For Wendy

unmistakable as two halos beaming;
her headlights peer into you earnestly,
your mind/heart/soul illuminate in pearly unison

perhaps that is what drew me in, her lighthouse
search lights flashing across a vast, foggy ocean
of people, places, histories, issues, years

living between us; still much to bare, share,
more than half-blood or half-truths, how intrinsic
our friendship, born—upon a familial foundation—

it's purity swells with rainbow pantone orbs
of pure energy, a celestial prophesy, or the waves
of quantum connectivity, where we are all one

in God’s catchlight eyes. She is a beacon of love
and light, glowing amber in the night, with a promise
of tomorrow, the best still yet to come
