balancing [2-01-2010] by Ava Blu
change became the theme
while i balance each piece on the tips of my fingers,
on the essence of lies
and with the absence of family;
i ended up here with a scale on my shoulders;
i’m just trying to keep them from falling
i’m just trying to keep it from burning
and i can only hope february is cold enough to put out the fire.

Author's Note: i started february in 2006, then 2007,
skipped 2008, on to 2009
and now 2010. we'll see how it goes.

Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 02/01/10 at 03:32 PM This is how you put together an introduction to a larger body of work. I love the element of hope and possibility in this. There's a great sense that everything is up in the air and can go in any possible direction. Beautifully done. |
Posted by Therese Elaine on 02/01/10 at 05:29 PM I love how the format makes this look like a scale, and one imagines the weight being balanced on your shoulders...this hints at so many possible futures and outcomes and it is so subtly rendered that it becomes even more impressive than it might have been with more direct wording. Really well done Ava! |
Posted by V. Blake on 02/01/10 at 06:27 PM Sharp as always, Ava--I do hope that Savannah is still treating you well, and that your February takes less out of you than Poemuary took out of me. Of course, I have more faith you'll do just fine, and I am looking forward to reading every other entry. :) |
