wash my face off

by Angela Thomas

i wrap my hands around the cold
metal of the faucet and give it a slight twist.
i let the water run over my hands for a few seconds
before splashing my face with it.
i lather up my hands in soap
and bring them to my face.
close my eyes, smell the fragrant smell.
i rub my hands all over my face.
i look in the mirror at myself without my mask
and sigh. i like myself better when i wash
my face off. if only other people saw
through my eyes.

It's usually the little tasks where we do our best thinking. Nicely done.
