Constellations

by Rachel Bennett

and the brightest of these stars:
the canine will bark louder than canopus,
until caelum carves a path winding
into unadmittable blackness

because when I stared at a blank email
it looked exactly the same
as a thousand meaningless dots
and a hundred arbitrary lines.

the shuttle lands
with incomprehensible quiet.
such is my departure.

My brain feels much like a collapsing soufflé at this hour of the morning on a good day, to say nothing of this particular day on which I arose at 6:30 to begin studying. That being said, it probably means very little that I enjoyed this poem so much, because I really don't understand it at all. I'll come back later. This was fun to read anyway. Thanks. Bye. Hello. Thanks. Bye.

Cryptic or not, even if Vince is cranky from studying or not...I like it...I've always loved constellations and they really do work themselves in to being great metaphors -as always, I am enjoying the progression!

Cryptic/ambiguous/vague is good. If it has a personal meaning that is either difficult or unable to be portrayed, that is awesome. I know jack-all about constellations despite my great interest in physics and cosmology, so it was cool for me to look up a few words in this here poem and learn something new.

I think your second stanza is intensely cool. Even in the places where there appears to be nothing, in actuality there are worlds upon worlds. What is great about this stanza is that it depicts this in a very regular and readily-observable way. I think it's keen insight on your part.

You topped the whole thing off well by putting things into perspective with your last stanza. I really appreciate the 'nod' toward humility and insignificance (that I created in this here noggin').
