Suessless by Michael DefriesI know nothing about poets
I only know about writing,
I know nothing about reading
I only know about observing.
I am not some spoon-fed unread
infant...
I took Dr. Seuss lessons while
suckling on nurture's tree.
It's sad really, how do-it-yourself
had nothing on poetry,
It's why I'm so hands-on.
I did however take a look at some
Encyclopedia Britannica as I turned
ageless in the room all-by-myself.
Yup! another parentless child but boo-
Hoo...I made it anyway...wasn't supp
osed to but I did. So na-na na-na na na.
Okay, digressing to poetry, apparently
some say it's art and others expression.
But what say you?
Judgment panels descend on caterpillar
cocoons as metamorphosis sets-in the
way kindergraden-ers graduate from naps.
There is the painting, and all the coloring
they under-go just to make their parents smile
by staying within the lines shows structure.
Forget the abstract, Picasso is dead
so concentrate on the more authoritative
figures like William Shakespeare.
Seussless but none-the-less,
Now that's a poet! 01/20/2010 Posted on 01/20/2010 Copyright © 2024 Michael Defries

Posted by George Hoerner on 01/20/10 at 02:02 PM I like this piece Michael. Poetry does evolve and those of us who can't keep up are left in the dust. That is where I am. It is like music that today is 'performance' and news that today is 'entertainment'. That is what the grave is for - those of us who can't keep up. |
