Narcissa

by Rachel Bennett

if mimicking is genuine,
her face is a lullaby
reciprocating faith,
cradling smiles.

when I laugh,
she grins,
she bobs.

when I wink,
she blinks,
she flirts.

and when she cries,
our tears meet somewhere
in the middle
of this pond.

My favorite thing about your poems is your word choice. You consistently make selections that no other poets seem to make, and it results in a unique voice that is totally your own, and all the better for it. Cool stuff. :)

I love the image that you create here, and the title really plays into it so well -you are able to structure things on a really stripped down level, without reducing your voice or the strength of the piece -you manage to create so much without a lot of excess -it really is awesome!

Similar to what Vince said, I would like to commend you on your talent to pinpoint extremely empathetic insight within our crazy world. What a great way to depict "the fake" and evoke, not only compassion for them, but fuse everyone together into one humanity. I challenge anyone to explain why this doesn't deserve full marks. Yes, it is not flamboyant, and it is subtle, but it actually needs to be that way.

This is an exceptional piece of writing. I'm thankful I was steered here.

Narcissa indeed! Vanity certainly comes in many forms, but your parallelisms here are exquisite. Lovely and brilliant. Take a bow Ms Bennett :)

and I feel all of these just as I am reading. In the moment. What a fine talent you are.

ur poems seem to take on a life of their own, but you, careful maker, are the best of poets, allowing your creation of word pools to breathe and flow where they may...a lovely piece, a pleasure to read u, peace, jewels xoxox
