Melancholy Flight

by Amie Golda

No fight to fight,
No song to sing
How drab is life when there's no sting!
No words to play on feeble minds,
No lull to dull
Day's evil grinds.
No respite in this world of dreams,
No thing that is as it seems
In world of tumbling
All is crumbling,
Bumbling, stumbling
As we begin sleep's
Melancholy flight.

If I can't sleep tonight without this playing through my head, I'm blaming you!!! Fun little piece and I especially love "no lull to dull" -that pleases the tongue!

I'm with Therese on "lull to dull," but will go further to say that its greatness is amplified by the subsequent line. Though I think "No words to play on feeble minds" was probably my favorite of them all. Regardless, I wanna add that I hate sleep. I wish I didn't have to do it at all. That said, this poem was up to your usual extraordinary standards, so my hats off to ya.

This is awesome to recite, Amie. I can't imagine anyone who isn't going to enjoy doing it. I think this would make a lovely lullaby, if it wasn't so "melancholy" :)

As for the subject matter, I think the theme of "a drama-less life feels empty (or whatever)" is a popular one, but, I like how you've juxtaposed it with sleep here -- that is original and gives this piece even more flare.

This was so fun to read aloud, I read it aloud three times! Great work, thanks for the awesome read!

The melancholy is compounded by rhymes and rhythms that induce in the reader a virtual state of resignation -- a consummate piece of manipulation :>

As one who oft finds sleep elusive I really like this one. smh
