An Impression

by Amy Niggel

There was something about her eyes
it reminded me of a word
like a tree in the forest.

I can feel the shape of it
like an itch in the back of my head
it was more than a word
but a feeling as well.

And she wore it casually
as though she knew
and didn't care.

As I ponder the look she gave
I am reminded of
how beautiful and cynical
she could be.

Ah yes now I recall
like a tree in the woods
a fallen tree.

Hollow that was the word
waiting to be filled
perhaps something living would arrive
but nothing had yet.

Your last stanza says it all. I really like the theme. Excellently executed.
