The Titan by Rachel Bennettthis is my infinity.
my left foot resting on Scylla's back,
my right crushing Charybdis' jaw.
and my arms, glazed by saccharin clouds,
reach upward past the sky
singed by Apollo's fiery spokes and
stoked by Zeus' indignant breath.
and when I walk, toes sinking in,
I wade through the oceans, waking
beasts that have slept for eons
and would prefer to sleep for more.
this is my infirmity. 01/17/2010 Author's Note: Poemuary Entry #17.

Posted by Clara Mae Gregory on 01/17/10 at 09:54 PM This one tickled me a bit as it brought back college day memories of when I studied art history. Many favorite lines, but I gravitate with a giggle to this one: "and my arms, glazed by saccharin clouds". Awesome metaphor.

Posted by Therese Elaine on 01/18/10 at 04:46 AM Ahhh evoking Bullfinch's Mythology and Steve Reeve's Hercules films...nicely done Rachel -and some gorgeous imagery here!!! |
Posted by Amie Golda on 01/18/10 at 05:24 AM I love the connection between the beginning and the end. The lines in between are exquisite and the allusion to Greek mythology does the great stories justice but strengthens teh vivid imagery in this beautiful peice as well. Bravo. |
