Who Wronged Who?

by Jersey D Gibson

Let us play a game of make-believe;
I'll pretend that I love you,
you'll pretend that you care.

Something wicked this way comes;
lines drawn along with guns,
words crack like the sound of whips.

Suffered down these dark years;
too stubborn to forgive,
too angry to forget.

Arguments, like ICBM's, find their marks;
see how I wound you,
see how you destroy me?

Your apology I accepted at superficial value,
my apology you ignored all the same.
Cast out spiteful glances, hoping for a bite,
all our fingers pointed out to blame.

Let us try something new;
locked and loaded,
this time it's war.

This picture torn so long ago;
how could we've been so happy,
how did it go so wrong?

Breaking up is like Darwinism-in-motion;
in this shouting match,
the first one to cry, loses.

Ready your weapons; ready your words;
it's time to start this contest again,
like a endangered species in a suicide charge.

Your face I've whitewashed from my memories,
my face you've burned out of photos with cigarette butts.
Build your rage up to toss me,
I still have the scars from what it cost me.

You wronged me? I wronged you?
Got it all wrong... who wronged who?
We only agree to disagree,
the truth only a difference of opinion.

Unfortunately most things in life are just like that, a matter of perspective, just a little bit more perception on one part than the other. Very nice write sir.

Some pretty startling revelations packed into this one. Rather difficult to walk away from, and that's never a bad thing. Well done.

Very, very powerful work here -agonizing and intense but still compelling and reflective...thank you for sharing this particular perspective.

Phenomenally accurate in telling it like it is. It's painful because it's true -- sometimes, no matter what, we aren't going to see eye to eye... Tremendous write. Thank you very much for sharing it.

This locks in and never lets go. I wish I could write like you.
