the whole you

by Emily Davidson

invincible
flawless
astonishing
man

what can't you do?

sharp-witted
quick-thinking
intelligent
being

have you always been so capable?

irresistible
sensual
passionate
creature

where did you learn the map of my desires?

to the onlookers
you seem perfect

i suppose i am the lucky one
for knowing the whole you

Could make you lucky, could be a curse. I love how you leave the reader wondering which.

"i suppose i am the lucky one for knowing the whole you"...these lines on their own leave little impact and may even sound cliche. But with the rest of the poem they create a unique twist. Likewise the rest of the poem is simple and nice enough but it's this last line that gives it this flavorful sting.
