green
slightly damp to the touch
the leaf is
nothing special, but holds firmly
to the branch

a colder wind, and the leaf
explodes from the inside
flaunting extravagant hues of
yellow and red

but the beauty
enchanting and exquisite
is too heavy a weight to hold;
the leaf can no longer
grasp the tree
and crumbles softly
into brown dust
