Mythic Places by Michael DefriesTriumphantly
Returns
The King
As waged war
Reminisced
Into history
Battles of foreground
Play out
Like the moss
That covers
Entire forests of
Sacred enchantment
As Druids
Watched trees
Burned down
In lore of the mythic
Fairies diminished
Once flourished
Serpentine
Creatures
Moved like
Leaves
On fire
Acreage
Stalling man
From secret
Oaks
Stand so tall
Looking up
And looking up
Miles could not
Touch cloudy skies
In daylight
Surrounded
These trees
Bare witness
To all the ages
As an ornithologist
Spectate
Upon songbirds
In willows and
Migrate
During
Winter
Hibernation
Of swallows
Watching bears
Hunt the night
Appease prominent
Branched arms
Reach out
Over snow landscapes
Covering life
With its nature
Protecting innocence
Hovering
An impossible
Fulcrum
The whole
