Poppies in The Meadow

by Michael Defries

I love you and all your poppies
I watch the gladiolas steal your glance

As you glance at me in second spring
Your smile awakens life in the meadow

The poppies lean toward your beauty
As they recognize your true harmony

As you caress them, your quiet whisper
Enchants all but man and beast alike

For it is the faint scent of lilies calling
Which you hear with your emotion

A calm breeze touches the tall reeds
They listen to your love, they embrace

The Earth remembers you, never will
It forget This Garden you made for us

Today we live, we roam, we frolic,
We are poppies in the meadow.
