A Goodnight Kiss

by Michael Defries

I couldn’t sleep
You weren’t
In my circumference
I needed the physical.

Your lips moving
To touch mine…
My earth
Touching your flesh
Reaching ground.

It’s your scent
Pressed against
My memory,
Memories of how
The soft caress reaches
Long into the sleep,

Faint, faint |
As the scent of you
Fades from my lips
Indulgent in longing
For satisfaction

Waves flutter
From my chest
As I exhale.

Feeling,
Need, wanting it,
The taste that
I know is you
On my lips.
