life without you

by Bryan Poole

Life without you
A river, dammed by debris
sorrow fills this pool
trees, bent over
cover the space
stopping the sunlight
No birds sing here
It is a place of sadness

In the spring
the waters surge
pushing the sorrow over the dam
tears flow freely
pushing away
what blocked the river
knocking down the trees
the pain that was bottled

The sun shines now
on the pool of tears
the birds, singing,
brighten the day
The ragged stumps
of the trees that hung
ever there to remind
living without you

Author's Note: I'm not quite sure where all this agony comes from. In general I'm a pretty happy guy. Maybe it's not about having pain, but knowing what it is.
