when

by Daryl Fein

If i gave myself to you, would you shelter me so?
In all of my days, a fairer comfort could not be found.

Silence is your only reply. You made me no promises.
I made myself mad over you. Alone here.
Where are you now?

Kick my teeth in, so that the blood may pour from my lips, like poetry.
you make them pout.
The signs properly ignored, the honor, no longer guarded.

You were always fine with the distance you created, led me to water, wouldnt let me drink it. I was always hopeful I'd grow on you, but then again, who am I kidding.

I have to ask, WHEN is the right time? If it not be now.....
we are only getting older, and I am tired of hiding.

I still know little of you, will you open up? I doubt it.
you have been used to many times to be honest with me now.
it's the freedom you cry, that you cant live without.

I am better than that.
better than the next man,
no doubt.

when he addresses you in that familial, dismissive, way....
critical, angry, so ready for change..
you will look up and sigh, in that frumpy lonely gaze...
You will label ME as the one that got away.

thinking way back to that day, when I said I was ready.
and you gave in to your fear.

mmm...to answer your question, yes. but then, she would have to be a woman and not a child masking in a woman's frame. tis difficult to tell the difference sometimes. don't waste your time or your heart on one who doesn't like herself...she will only abuse your trust.
