Perspective: How We See Cliche

by Michael Defries

In these moments
Truth be told
You hear it sing when
The birds cry
The angels weep

On shallow
Ground unturned
Stones become
What we watched
Growing up

Our life
Determined
Hope
Satisfied
Today

Until landscapes of
Waterfalls
Filled with lily crests
Atoned by with
Tears of the fountain
Of youth smiles
In explicit happiness

Round the riches
Count the ways
On your one hand
See it Stretch
Vision
Questing for inner
Peace

Is power
Begets more
Finding absolutes
Trite
Brilliant sparkly
Mud

Fills
Half the glass
The other
Filled with air
So profound
Yet atomically

Nothing is there
But voided space
How we see cliché
Is transformative.
