I am willing to forgive you for everything

by Jolie Jordan

I am willing to forgive you for everything.

Instead I choose to think about
how you will occasionally, randomly
bring home root beer floats
and peanut butter m&m's;
just because they're my favorites.

Or how you know I have a beauty mark
right above my left breast,
and you have announced that it is
your favorite.

I let you leave me and test out
your walking shoes upon me
while regrets crawl up my spine
like spiders.

There is no answer for people like us,
no silver lining. I have learned the way to act
in situations like these, how to disappear so well.

I am unbothered,
I am asleep when you do get home.
a stomach full of whiskey isn't something I'd tell my mom,
but I feel she knows me too well anyway.

I am willing to forgive you for everything
As long as I convince myself that it is nothing.

Heavy words...and what a challenge: I am willing to forgive you for everything As long as I convince myself that it is nothing.

Ah yes, but we must also be willing to forgive ourselves for we too make mistakes.

It's nice to hear another girl loves whiskey...

intimacy with a hint of distrust. a dash of doubt. and you have a solid foundation for denial. on rare occasions I avoid the truth, if it means there is no reconciliation. I think deep down on some level we all fear alienation. being alone. reinventing ourselves. letting go.

thanks for letting me rant.
great poem. :)

i like this a lot, because it is A: honest, and B: quite beautiful because of A.
