oh happy days...

by Charlie Morgan

things i've yet to learn
wonderfully
elude my grasp.

bliss escorts me.

told no one where i was going;
i felt i should know first, then
i'll tell someone else.

all the while
noises of Christmas,
already clamouring for quiet,
yet bursting-out kids' hearts,
with love spelled S A N T A;
for me, it's a healthy, fun job.

as i said,
things i've yet to learn
wonderfully
elude my grasp.
bliss escorts me.

so,
made an appointment with a retirement counselor;
i broke it.
couldn't stand to get on the ship to the final frontier.

still, taking the challenge, i marched forward;
churned my fists with confidence.
the fog lifted, i was but air, moving.

another day logged, loved and left behind.
fumbling thru the rolodex of numbered days,
there is no infinity in the I section.

left with no one to call, i chill-bump the
clock of Christmases and see many are left
thru Kai; he's my Ponce de Leon of tomorrow.

Very nice write Charlie. Retirement much like life is a two edged sword. Hold it by the handle as well as you can and use it gently. Wishing you the best when you walk down the plank.
