The Willow Tree by Michael DefriesThe Willow Tree once said to Me…
Willow Tree:
Come and sit under me
I shall protect you from
The rain
And the storm that follows
Me:
There isn't a storm ahead
It's a cool summer day
Willow Tree:
No!
There isn't a storm in the sky
But the Gods and Goddesses
Send lightening bolts
Down my spine
Me:
I am sitting against you
I feel no bolt shocking us
Willow Tree:
My roots are firm in the soil
And all of my leaves are beautiful
While my trunk feels
Nature's power
I will confide in you my secret
That there is no lightening
Me:
You lied to me and I sat next
To you
Willow Tree:
No lie by my part
I will tell you though
No! Don't walk away
Me:
I will walk away because
You cannot
And you have lied to me
Willow Tree: Wait! I meant to say
Me: I can't hear you Willow!
Willow Tree:
Oh well
I meant to say to you
Enlightening
Go find another Willow to
Sit under
That will tell our secret
To you
I wish you could have stayed
Under me
I would have protected you from
The rain and
The storm that arises
When one sits under me
The Willow Tree.
