Nothing behind a stare

by Johnny Crimson

The interrogation light continues
to flicker, reminding us that this will
eventually end.
I cry into her black hair and tap my nervous
feet, I know sometime soon they will ask us
where the body is.

I think back to our first date when
we swam in your parents pool and ate
bomb-pops from the ice cream truck.
Your tongue slid from the frozen cherry cream
to me and my eyes went swimming as well.

Glancing up at me now there's something familiar
in her stare. Like the time she nudged me when her
father asked my age.

Seeing the handgun on the table and the
backdoor slightly cracked,
I parted my lips to say I love you
and by that time we were Outtie5000.

I love this story and love the pun on the last line. You're mild stuff is amazing.
