Reno Blackmore

by V. Blake

there's a garage in south Jersey,
held together by withering ivy,
and laughing at jokes
that time has never understood.
attached no longer to a home,
its shelves have known
no toolbox
for 27 years.

its floor is covered
in a decadent dust
that i like to think
may once have been
rose petals.

in the center of the room
(where the concrete foliage
is at its thickest)
there's an extra few layers
in the shape of a 1965
Ford Shelby mustang.

these are the reasons,

that even after
the gas tank became a millionaire
through the work of hauling decades
on the odometer's dime,

and perhaps to spite the miles
of secrets in the glove compartment,

i could still tell ya how to get there.

WOW! You are describing my old house at 601 Lees Ave in Collingswood. Except it doesn't have the mustang in the small one car detached. It is however now on the National Historic registry. You bring back a lot of memories. Nice write Vince. Keep it up!

If it was a 67 Mustang, you should have called her Eleanor. None the less, this is very vivid. I feel like I'm sifting though it as if I'm there.

This is great, Vince. Love the miles of secrets in the glove box. Delighted. Thanks.

Good. I like that you added "these are the reasons" between the 3rd and 4th stanzas. It makes the flow much better than your first draft. But it still contains the mystery and humor you originally wrote. Excellent work. Can't wait for the next installments :)

You sold me on 1965 Shelby Mustang! Can't get much better than that for a visual!
