When There's Nothing Left, Nothing Seems Right

by Jared Orlando

When there’s nothing left
Nothing’s ever right
Like a two way street
In the middle of the night
Like waking each morning
To find her right by your side
Caressing a memory
That you hoped had died

And I thought that begging
Would bring you back around
But your skin was too strong
For such a dirty little town
And for once in my life I know
It’d be better if I cried

Because now that there’s nothing left
Nothing seems right

I stepped out to find you
With a body in your hands
Out of myself I was lifted
A pitiful demand
So I shunned you, an orphan
My eyes know you right
And my heart has no mercy
For your sins and your plight

And now you leave nothing left
And nothing seems right

As a book has an ending
Indeed you’ll find
Me between your ancient pages
And as I decay in time
You’ll close me up just to put
Me right between bookends
Confusion settles in on
This cover again

What’ll it be when there’s nothing left
Of that whiskey bottle tonight
