Brotherly Love by Matthew ZangenWe've all done something we regret
to end up in Philly.
Worse things make us stay.
I'm the fucking new guy.
The New York trick, neck down,
eyes stuck up
at dogged men
banished next door
to stick up for
that old time of day 'hey.'
I can't move, but walk away. 12/05/2009 Posted on 12/05/2009 Copyright © 2024 Matthew Zangen

Posted by Julie Adams on 04/30/10 at 08:14 AM The opening 2 lines of this piece are priceless. I love it!! It starts things off with quite a fervor...and the New York trick is just keen and clever to capture...somehow the poem feels like it ended too quickly, I wanted to read more of the persona and place your words invoke...perhaps that is the greedy poet inside me talking tho...nice read, looking forward to seeing more of what you've got going forward...peace n poems to you star! ~jewels xo |
