show me the money!

by Nanette Bellman

my mother used to quote Bill Cosby to me.
she'd say "i brought you into this world,
i can take you out of it,
and i can make another one just like you."

i'd laugh at her, because the probability of her creating another me,
is impossible.

but now i see, this saying isn't meant for this world,
it's meant for another. it can be applied to many other situations.

i see the same look in your eyes, i can read your face,
the same way i thought about this when i heard it.
you don't believe me.
you didn't believe me when i said it.

silly boy, the joke is on you.

did you really think that you were going to take this from me?
that you would turn an empire i was in before you against me?
that these people we've come to know and love together,
that we've shared moments, good and bad, with,
would take sides at a drop of a hat?
especially yours?
you'd expect that of them?

you really thought you could run away with them?
all of them.
and leave me in the dust alone.
that you could turn them all into liars and still manage to have an army.

well guess what Sugar, it only takes one.
one leads to another
which leads to another and another and another.

and none of them really give a damn.

Author's Note: i'm the Jerry Maguire of this world, i've already told you that, and i know who's coming with me.

Cheers to your joining the club of poets who title their poems after quotes from movies that were popular a long time ago! We're the only members right now, but maybe we can get one of them Poetry Circles going eventually. :)

It's been ages since I read poetry, and this makes me want to start reading and writing it again. I think I will... I really think I will... It amazes me how you can be so open with what you feel, and just announce it like this. But I think that's just me and my own insecurities embedding themselves within the context of everything I read.

This is good. Really good. I will try to read more soon, it's something I *must* make time for.

Sometimes people mistakenly think that loyalty is dead... I think it's just become a bit more subtle. Powerful; I hope he gets it, even if he never reads it.
